Written by John Hamre

The 17th Annual Major League Wheelchair Softball Tournament took place at Victory Field in Queens NY on Saturday September 23rd 2017.  3 Wheelchair Softball Teams sponsored by Major League Baseball franchises competed.  The New England Rolling Red Sox, New York Mets and New York Yankees fought for the coveted "Kelly Cup", named after Eastern Paralyzed Veterans Association and United Spinal Association’s' former Executive Director, Jerry Kelly.

After playing 5 games, the New York Yankees beat the New England Rolling Red Sox to win the 17th Annual Major League Wheelchair Softball Tournament.

On behalf of the players, coaches and Wheelchair Sports Federation, we'd like to thank the NYC Parks Department, All-American Deli, Bussani Mobility, NY Mets, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees and Major League Baseball, especially Tom Brasuell and Curtis Pride for their continued support.  Without their help, we could not have a premiere Wheelchair Softball Tournament in the Northeast and one of the better events for Adaptive Sports in the United States

2017 Final Results:

1st Place – New York Yankees

2nd Place – New England Rolling Red Sox

3rd Place - New York Mets

We look forward to being back at Citi Field in September 2018.

Written by John Hamre

On Friday, October 13, 2017 the Wheelchair Sports Federation was invited to attend a fundraiser at Rutgers University in New Jersey. This event was designed to bring awareness to the many struggles and challenges that the disabled face on a daily basis and how they are overcome. The Brooklyn Nets Wheelchair Basketball Team provided extra wheelchairs and challenged both the faculty and students to a game of wheelchair basketball.
We would like to thank Nychey Michel Coordinator from the office of Disability Service and Paul (Director of Cook-Douglass Recreation Center), not only for their invitation and hospitality, but their generous donation as well.
